Dear MEAD-community, hello,


I recently had again some problems with setting up MEAD for one of our
projects. The problem is, that we have to process UTF-8 characters, but
this seems not to work as expected.

I have a textfile with utf-8 characters and try to convert to docsent (I
use the text2cluster.pl from the MEAD addons).

For example here's the first line of my textfile:
    V?clav Klaus is the second President of the Czech Republic and a
former Prime Minister of the Czech Republic.

And this is the correspondant line of the docsent-file that's been
generated:
   <S PAR='1' RSNT='1' SNO='1'>V clav Klaus is the second President of
the Czech Republic and a former Prime Minister of the Czech Republic .</S>


You see the special-character '?' in V?clav is missing ... any ideas
what might be wrong here. This is only a sample, but goes wrong with
every special-char. I guess it has something to do with the settings of
my Perl? Or does text2cluster do not support utf-8?
